What is a speech therapist?
A Speech Therapist, or Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), is a trained professional who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders. They work with a diverse range of clients, including children with developmental delays, individuals with neurological conditions like stroke or traumatic brain injury, and those with speech and language issues due to aging or other medical conditions.
What do speech therapists treat?
Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) work with individuals who have difficulty speaking, understanding language, or expressing themselves effectively. Speech therapists also assist individuals who have swallowing difficulties, such as difficulty chewing or swallowing food and drinks safely. Lastly, SLPs play an important role in cognitive rehabilitation which include improving skills such as attention, memory, problem solving, language comprehension, executive functioning, and social skills.
